138
3-dart checkout
Strategy
A high-pressure checkout. Hit T20, T18, D12 in sequence. Focus on the trebles first — if you miss, you may still leave yourself a workable finish. If your T20 lands in S20, you'll need 138 with 3 darts remaining. A miss sideways into the 5 or 1 segments changes the equation significantly. If your T18 lands in S18, you'll need 78 with 2 darts remaining. A miss sideways into the 1 or 4 segments changes the equation significantly. You'll encounter 138 frequently in competitive 501 and 301 play.
Alternative Routes
Besides T20 → T18 → D12, alternative routes include: T18 → T20 → D12. The best choice depends on which area of the board you're most confident in.
Pro Tip
D12 sits between D9 and D5 on the board. A miss inside to S12 leaves you on 12 (D6), maintaining a double finish. The D12 area is relatively spacious, making it a comfortable finishing double.
