Strategy

The 141 is one of the most famous numbers in darts because it's the standard finishing score in a nine-dart leg. The classic nine-darter route is two visits of 180 (T20, T20, T20) leaving 141, which is finished with T20, T19, D12. This means every nine-dart attempt finishes with this exact checkout — making it perhaps the most televised three-dart combination in darts history. The T20-to-T19 switch requires moving from the top of the board to the left side, then down to D12 on the right. If your T20 hits S20 instead, you're on 121 — still finishable but much harder. When you're on 141, even in a regular match, there's always a small thrill knowing you're on the same finish as every nine-darter.

Alternative Routes

Besides T20 → T19 → D12, alternative routes include: T19 → T20 → D12. The best choice depends on which area of the board you're most confident in.

Pro Tip

D12 sits between D9 and D5 on the board. A miss inside to S12 leaves you on 12 (D6), maintaining a double finish. The D12 area is relatively spacious, making it a comfortable finishing double.
