Strategy
A two-dart checkout: T14, D16. Hit the treble first to set up the double. If your T14 lands in S14, you're left on 60 with 1 dart to go. A miss sideways into the 11 or 9 segments changes the equation significantly. You'll encounter 74 frequently in competitive 501 and 301 play.
Alternative Routes
Besides T14 → D16, alternative routes include: T18 → D10. The best choice depends on which area of the board you're most confident in.
Pro Tip
Finishing on D16 is the gold standard in darts. If you miss into S16, you halve to D8. Miss D8 into S8? You're on D4. This cascading safety net is why top players always try to set up a D16 finish.
