120“Shanghai”
3-dart checkout
Strategy
The Shanghai checkout — 120 (T20, S20, D20). Named because you hit the treble, single, and double of the same number, all three darts land in the 20 segment. This makes 120 uniquely satisfying: you barely need to move your aim between darts. Just adjust the height slightly — treble ring, fat single, then up to the outer doubles ring. The consistency required is in vertical accuracy rather than horizontal. If you miss the T20 and hit S20 instead, you're left on 100 (T20, D20) — still a very comfortable two-dart finish. This forgiving nature makes 120 one of the best checkouts to be on. Alternative routes exist (T20, S20, D20 is standard), but the Shanghai is the most elegant and efficient.
Alternative Routes
Besides T20 → S20 → D20, alternative routes include: T20 → D30. The best choice depends on which area of the board you're most confident in.
Pro Tip
D20 (tops) is the most practiced double, but missing inside to S20 leaves you on 20 (D10) — still a clean single-dart finish. Train this double by focusing on the very edge of the board.
