80
2-dart checkout
Strategy
Eighty is a dream checkout for most players. The standard route T20, D10 keeps you in familiar territory at the top of the board. But there's a popular alternative: T16, D16 — which many professionals actually prefer because D16 is one of the most commonly practiced doubles on the board. If you miss T20 and hit S20, you're on 60 (S20, D20) — still easy. With the T16 route, a miss into S16 leaves 64 (T16, D8), also manageable. The 80 appears frequently in 501 when players score heavily in their first six darts. It's the checkout that rewards good scoring — if you're regularly leaving yourself on 80 or below after two visits, your scoring game is solid.
Alternative Routes
Besides T20 → D10, alternative routes include: T16 → D16. The best choice depends on which area of the board you're most confident in.
Pro Tip
D10 is a solid finishing double. A miss inside to S10 leaves you on 10 (D5) — still on a double. Located in the lower portion of the board, it requires a slightly different arm angle than D20.
