81
2-dart checkout
Strategy
The 81 checkout (T19, D12) is one of the most common finishes in 501 darts. After throwing 180, 180, and 60, you arrive at exactly 81 — making this a score you'll encounter regularly in competitive play. T19 sits on the left side of the board between 7 and 3. A miss into S19 leaves you on 62 (T10, D16), while a miss into the 7 or 3 leaves tricky odd numbers. The D12 is located between D9 and D5 on the right side — a comfortable double that's relatively large. Alternative: T15, D18 avoids the busy T19 area. Practicing the T19–D12 transition is essential for any serious 501 player.
Alternative Routes
Besides T19 → D12, alternative routes include: T15 → D18. The best choice depends on which area of the board you're most confident in.
Pro Tip
D12 sits between D9 and D5 on the board. A miss inside to S12 leaves you on 12 (D6), maintaining a double finish. The D12 area is relatively spacious, making it a comfortable finishing double.
