2-dart checkout

S18
D16
SimpleSingle + Double

Strategy

Fifty can be finished with a single bullseye — making it the only checkout besides the even numbers 2-40 that can be completed in one dart. However, hitting the bull under pressure is extremely difficult. The safer two-dart route is S18, D16 (or S10, D20), which sets you up on a comfortable double. Most recreational players should take the two-dart route: hit S18 to leave D16, the best double on the board with its halving safety net. If you're feeling confident, going for the bull is exciting and crowd-pleasing, but statistically the two-dart approach is more reliable. In professional darts, the split is roughly 50/50 — some situations call for the one-dart drama, others for the safe two-dart close.

Alternative Routes

Besides S18 → D16, alternative routes include: S10 → D20. The best choice depends on which area of the board you're most confident in.

Pro Tip

Finishing on D16 is the gold standard in darts. If you miss into S16, you halve to D8. Miss D8 into S8? You're on D4. This cascading safety net is why top players always try to set up a D16 finish.
