161
3-dart checkout
Strategy
One of the toughest checkouts in darts. Requires 2 trebles and the bullseye (T20, T17, Bull). Only attempt this if you're feeling confident. If your T20 lands in S20, you'll need 161 with 3 darts remaining. A miss sideways into the 5 or 1 segments changes the equation significantly. If your T17 lands in S17, you'll need 101 with 2 darts remaining. A miss sideways into the 2 or 3 segments changes the equation significantly. The bullseye is the hardest target — miss it and you'll likely hit the outer bull (25) or miss the bull entirely, leaving you with no finish. You'll encounter 161 frequently in competitive 501 and 301 play.
Alternative Routes
Besides T20 → T17 → Bull, alternative routes include: T17 → T20 → Bull. The best choice depends on which area of the board you're most confident in.
Pro Tip
The bullseye requires pinpoint accuracy at the center of the board. It's the smallest target area and counts as a double. Approach it with a slightly lofted throw arc to compensate for the central position.
