Strategy

A high-pressure checkout. Hit T20, T18, D16 in sequence. Focus on the trebles first — if you miss, you may still leave yourself a workable finish. If your T20 lands in S20, you'll need 146 with 3 darts remaining. A miss sideways into the 5 or 1 segments changes the equation significantly. If your T18 lands in S18, you'll need 86 with 2 darts remaining. A miss sideways into the 1 or 4 segments changes the equation significantly. You'll encounter 146 frequently in competitive 501 and 301 play.

Alternative Routes

Besides T20 → T18 → D16, alternative routes include: T18 → T20 → D16. The best choice depends on which area of the board you're most confident in.

Pro Tip

Finishing on D16 is the gold standard in darts. If you miss into S16, you halve to D8. Miss D8 into S8? You're on D4. This cascading safety net is why top players always try to set up a D16 finish.
