170“Big Fish”
3-dart checkout
Strategy
The legendary 170 — the highest possible checkout in darts and the ultimate test of skill. You need two treble 20s followed by the bullseye. In professional darts, hitting a 170 is a career highlight. Phil Taylor famously hit this checkout in World Championship finals. The difficulty is extreme: even among professionals, the conversion rate on 170 attempts is below 5%. Most recreational players will never hit one in competition, making it the Mount Everest of darts checkouts. If you find yourself on 170 in a match, take a breath, commit fully to T20 with your first dart, and let the muscle memory guide you.
Alternative Routes
The standard route T20 → T20 → Bull is the most commonly used combination for 170.
Pro Tip
The bullseye requires pinpoint accuracy at the center of the board. It's the smallest target area and counts as a double. Approach it with a slightly lofted throw arc to compensate for the central position.
